It feels like the schools have only just re-opened for everyone but the Easter holidays are not far away! We’re progressing through the government’s timetable for the easing of lockdown and step two is due to take place during the Easter break; this involves outdoor hospitality opening along with non-essential retail and personal care. As a result, there should be more activities to help keep children and families occupied over (at least some) of the holidays. We’ve compiled a list of things going on in and around West Berkshire. The Ugly Duckling

Ultimate Activity Camps

Ultimate Activity Camps provide outstanding Ofsted-registered (& Covid-Safe!) activity day camps for children aged 4-14, where the children’s welfare and fun are at the heart of all they do! Children will enjoy a fantastic range of over 40 sports, games and art activities every week, led by engaging staff at amazing locations. NAWT Berkshire Easter Scavenger Hunt (1st-19th April)

NAWT Berkshire is holding an Easter scavenger hunt, children can crack the code to find the eggs hidden around Great Shefford and win a prize from the Easter bunny, it’s £4 per child to take part. Call 01488 638584 for more information and visit the Facebook event here.

Shaw House & West Berkshire Museum

Usually Shaw House and West Berkshire Museum hold Family Activity Days during the school holidays, where children can enjoy a craft activity. These are online at the moment and the Easter crafts are ‘Brilliant Bunnies’ and ‘Reliable Romans.’ You can find the instructions for the crafts here (scroll down to the ‘Craft Activities’ section). 

The grounds at Shaw House will be open from 6th – 9th April and 12th – 16th April between 8am and 4pm so if you live locally you can visit for a walk. Only the grounds will be open, the house and cafe will be closed and there will be no facilities available.

Blue Beetle Ceramics

Newbury Crafty Craft

This year Newbury Crafty Craft has gone digital. Newbury BID is inviting you to make mini rafts at home to float in the bath, paddling pool or the washing up bowl! The theme is ‘NHS Heroes’ and the event will support the West Berkshire Community Hospital League of Friends charity; participants are encouraged to donate what they can via the charity’s PayPal Giving Fund. To enter you need to submit a photo or video footage of your home-made crafts to You can also share your images on social media and tag Visit Newbury using #VisitNewbury. The provisional deadline for entries is Monday 19th April (so this is a great activity for the Easter holidays!) and winners are due to be announced on Crafty Craft’s usual Early May Bank Holiday (Monday 3rd May).
