Usually we are spoiled for choice with Halloween and half term events here in West Berkshire. Everything is going to be slightly different this year and there are not as many events and activities taking place, however, popular events such as Pumpkin Picking are still happening. We have rounded up some of the events and activities that are taking place in the area below. Most events will require advance booking. If you know of anything that we’ve missed or if you’re holding an event that you’d like us to add then please get in touch.

Cobbs Farm Shop, Hungerford

P.Y.O Pumpkins – 10th-31st October

Cobbs Farm Shop in Hungerford is once again holding its popular pumpkin picking event. The farm will be open seven days a week until 31st October (or until it runs out of pumpkins). It is slightly different this year in that you must book a time slot, call 01488 686770 ext 1 to book. All details for the P.Y.O pumpkin event can be found on the Cobbs Farm website.

The National Animal Welfare Trust Berkshire is holding a Halloween themed virtual Bake Off from the 8th-29th October. There is a Junior Category so the children can get involved! You will need to register and you can do this at or call 01488 638584.

Millets Farm

P.Y.O Pumpkins

The Pick Your Own Pumpkins event at Millets Farm is always popular. This year it is running every weekend from 26th September and then daily from 17th-31st October. You will need to pre-book and you can do this via the website where you will also find terms and conditions related to this year’s pumpkin picking.

Shaw House

Virtual Family Activity Day: Monsters Rock! – Wednesday 28th October

Shaw House in Newbury usually runs Family Activity Days during the school holidays. As it cannot currently hold in person events, this one is running online. You will be able to download a free pdf to make a finger puppet monster or a Halloween decoration. Along with the pdf there will be a ‘how to’ video available to watch on YouTube. West Berkshire Museum

Batty Bats Craft Pack

Like Shaw House, the Museum usually holds activity days during the school holidays. While you won’t be able to take part in an activity day at the museum, you can purchase a Batty Bats craft pack for £2 and make a 3D bat hanging decoration at home. You can purchase a pack from 28th September- 31st October between 10am & 4pm each day. There are a limited number of packs available.

Ghost Hanging Decoration – online craft

Make your own hanging ghost using simple materials and instructions provided via pdf. There will also be a ‘how to’ video available. All details can be found on the Facebook event.

Blue Beetle Ceramics

Blue Beetle Ceramics in Thatcham is providing Halloween Trick or Treat buckets with sweets, stickers and a piece of paint at home pottery for £15-£20 (price varies depending on which piece of pottery you choose to paint). These are available to collect from 7th October and you can pre-order by getting in touch with Blue Beetle Ceramics – all details can found on the Facebook page.

City Arts Newbury

City Arts has a few workshops running during half term:

Fused Glass for Children – Monday 26th October 10am-12pm

Suitable for teenagers, a hands-on workshop to make fused glass pebbles. Tickets are £18. More details can be found here.

Children’s Halloween Spooky Picture using Botanical Inks – Friday 30th October 10am-12pm

Suitable for children aged 8+. The workshop will involve producing Halloween and autumnal themed pictures. £15. More details here.

Children’s Halloween Printing Workshop – Saturday 31st October 10am-12pm

Suitable for children of all ages (under 8s need to be accompanied by an adult). In this workshop they will learn printing techniques to make some Halloween images. £10. More details here.

Children’s Halloween Linoprint Workshop – Saturday 31st October – 1.30pm-3.30pm

Suitable for ages 8+, children will learn printing techniques to create Halloween bunting and pictures. £15. More details here.

Newbury Town Centre

Newbury’s Fun Half-Term Halloween Trail – Monday 26th October-Saturday 31st October

A Halloween trail around Newbury Town Centre organised by Parkway Shopping Centre, Newbury BID (Visit Newbury) and the Kennet Centre. Families and children can pick up trail starter packs from Fat Face from 10am on 26th October. You then have until 31st October to hand the completed trail sheet into Paperchase. There are some prizes available and each child can get a treat at the end of the trail. More details can be found on the Facebook event.

Beale Park

From 24th October – 1st November there is free entry for a child dressed up for Halloween (if accompanied by a full paying adult).

Arlington Arts

Jungle Adventure with Boogie Mites – Monday 26th October 10am & 11.15am

For children up to the age of 5, join Lizzie from Boogie Mites to enjoy music, instruments and more. £8 per ticket (only one adult can accompany the child due to social distancing and only one non-participating sibling (aged under 12 months) may attend). 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park

Pumpkin Castle – 24th October – 1st November

4 Kingdoms is holding the above event during half term, at the time of writing no further details have been released. You can keep up to date on the 4 Kingdoms website and Facebook page.

Bucklebury Farm Park

Pumpkin Carving & The Haunted Halloween Trail – Saturday 25th October-Sunday 31st October (10am-4.30pm)
