A new year is often when people think about setting goals for a healthier lifestyle and improving their fitness. So we thought that it was a good opportunity to introduce you to some local businesses who can help you with achieving your goals. Read on to find out more about some fantastic child friendly fitness classes and a local gym.

Fitter Mother is run by local mum of two Fiona, she tells us more about herself and her child friendly fitness classes.

“After my second child was born I decided on a complete career change and went about turning my passion for fitness into something that could benefit other mums. I qualified as a Personal Trainer with a specialism in postnatal fitness, and that’s where Fitter Mother was born. I felt that there was a huge gap in the market for effective yet safe exercise after having your baby – and crucially, classes where the little ones could come too! All of my sessions are child and baby friendly, super social, and cater for all stages of motherhood – whether you are looking to strengthen your core and get your fitness back after becoming a mum, or have older children or serious fitness goals that you want to smash, I love providing a mix of group sessions and one on one training.

Classes range from Buggyfit (outdoor group sessions with little ones in their strollers), to indoor Postnatal Strength & Restore, to outdoor advanced circuits classes, as well as small group and personal training. Classes are about so much more than fitness and that’s what makes them really unique. Aside from knowing that you are in safe hands and will be catered for depending on your exact postnatal stage and recovery, they are also a great way to meet other mums in the area and I love seeing friendships blossom- coffee and cake often go hand in hand with our sessions!”

A local gym based at a hotel between Goring & Streatley.

“The Gym at Streatley is a light, bright, spacious and air conditioned space with free weights, stretch area, cardio and resistance equipment. The Gym Team are on hand to offer advice and encouragement, or if you are looking for something more structured, we can arrange a consultation with our resident Personal Trainer, Harry Halls.

We offer a full timetable of classes for all levels of fitness, from Spin to Boxercise, Weights and HIIT. Instructors are all specialists in their particular exercise, so you are in safe hands. The Riverside Yoga Studio and meditation lawn offer a haven of calm for Pilates, Yoga and Stretch classes.

Membership includes access to the gym, classes and sauna & steam room. Members tell us they like our welcoming approach and many friendships have formed over the years. Wherever possible, we take our classes outside and make the most of the beautiful riverside location. The Running Club meets twice a week and takes part in local events together, we also host summer bootcamps, paddleboarding on the river and wild swimming.

The Gym is based at The Swan at Streatley, a recently refurbished hotel on the Thames between the villages of Goring & Streatley. The hotel has a thriving bar, perfect for that post work out coffee – or if you have really worked up an appetite, you can pop next door to Coppa Club for all day dining. Come and take a look around, chat to the team and have a trial class or workout.”

Child Friendly Fitness Classes

Nicci is a full time mum to three small children (aged 5 months – 6 years old). She has a passion for being active and is a keen runner, triathlete, fitness and spin instructor. She started Family Fit with Nicci as she wanted to provide child friendly workout opportunities, without the gym membership and crèche fees. Classes are up to an hour long and parents can bring their children with them. There is a play space with a mat and toys but older ones often join in, having fun doing the exercises with mum or dad! Nicci says that it’s very cute to watch a toddler do squats! No-one expects the class to go uninterrupted, and whilst it’s not going to be like hitting the gym by yourself, it’s a workout you might not have done otherwise – #win!

If you are looking for a way to get being active back into your routine then Nicci’s Tuesday Fitness class is ideal. The session is a mix of stretching, cardio and toning, incorporating options for all abilities. Each half term block forms a fitness course, getting gradually more challenging each week, giving you that fitness boost. Watch this space for more classes, coming Easter 2020!
