The Darling Buds of May is a family run smallholding consisting of a Barn Café, Plant Nursery, Caravan and Motorhome sites and a Dog Activity Paddock. It is situated just outside Newbury on the A339 road to Basingstoke, opposite 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.

The Barn Café opened in June 2019 and is a lovely, family friendly place to enjoy a meal or hot or cold drink. All the food is prepared fresh to order and the menu is varied with seasonal changes and additions. The Café serves all day breakfasts, lunches and cakes & treats. You can enjoy homemade food along with jacket potatoes, toasties, baguettes and lots more with a wide variety of filling choices. There are also weekly specials and a children’s menu. Most dietary requirements can be catered for with vegan and gluten free/dairy free options available. Organic ingredients are used where possible. The Barn Café serves artisan coffee and loose leaf tea so you can enjoy a hot drink with a slice of sweet cake or a fruity treat. Although not overly large it is very spacious and airy with a lovely cosy children’s play area. You can see the play area from almost every table making this the perfect place to go with little ones or to meet with friends over coffee or lunch. As well as the indoor seating there is a sun garden and a tropical tunnel so during warmer weather and sunnier months you can enjoy the outdoors too. The toilets and baby changing facilities are a short walk across the car park.

We have been to the Barn Café a few times with our two children (aged 1 and 6). They were both happily occupied in the play area the whole time we were there, meaning we could enjoy a coffee in peace! They also enjoyed some ice cream and we plan to go back to sample the main menu and the children’s menu. The Barn Café is a real gem, perfect for families or if you want to go and enjoy a fresh homemade meal.

The Nursery has a wide variety of plants to choose from as well as logs, kindling, coal and gas cylinders. The Dog Paddock can be hired for one hour periods giving you and your best friend a chance to play and run around without being disturbed by others. You can pre-book the Dog Paddock via the Darling Buds of May website.

Darling Buds of May holds regular events, details of which can be found on its social media pages. During December there will be Christmas trees for sale, festive drinks and treats and a Christmas Fayre the weekend of 7th and 8th December.
