A boat full of wool is a unique local business offering craft workshops on board a narrowboat. Owner Sophie tells us a little bit more about it and why she set it up in the first place:

“I’m a Craft enthusiast and I set up A boat full of wool in 2017, my mission is to get as many young people inspired to learn to crochet and knit. I also wanted to create a getaway for adults to come and escape for a couple of hours, in the peaceful surroundings of the Kennet and Avon canal all whilst learning a new craft in a unique environment onboard a narrowboat. I teach fun, on-trend Craft workshops to Crochet and to Arm knit and I also offer Craftanoon teas on the canal!

Crafts are fun, a good alternative to screen time and great for the mind. I have combined my passion for crafts with my previous career in Early Years to provide fun and engaging craft workshops for children. A Boat full of wool now runs Children’s Craft afterschool clubs and workshops in the summer holidays.

A Boat full of wool will soon offer its Botanical collection selling plant dyed silk ribbons for floral bouquets for weddings and hand dyed items from scarves to napkins. I use plants foraged from the tow path along the Kennet and Avon and make unique, natural dyes onboard my narrowboat kitchen. I create raw and rustic pieces with no item being the same.

A boat full of wool has been featured in Simply Crochet Magazine, BBC Radio Berkshire, Land love Magazine, Waterways World magazine, Inside Crochet magazine and Knitcraft for HobbyCraft; it holds only 5* reviews on Facebook.
